Slave Ingenuity

Slaves were known to outsmart their masters from time to time and Jim is a prime example.  His master often underfed the slaves on his plantation so one day Jim killed a few calves to help supplement the slave community’s food supply.     The slaves witnessed Jim slay the calves with a mallet and then leave them where they fell.  When their master asked what happened to the calves, Jim said they died from “mallitis.”  The slaves solemnly nodded in agreement as they stood looking downward feigning sorrow.   The master would never think of eating diseased meat so “mallitis” and the slaves’ great performance earned them the calves.
